~ What is Jojo's Living Room? ~
Do we not all dream of our neighborhoods being open and tight-knit places of connectedness? Such a thing does not happen automatically - it is up to you and me to bring people together. This Jojo is taking a stand on this front, so I'm opening up my living room to you! In short, I invite you to events at my home, you bring a friend or two every now and then, we strengthen bonds, make new friends, and if you're feeling so moved, you can open up YOUR living room and help transform our city into a land of camaraderie instead of isolation. I hope to see you in our living room!
~ Calendar ~
We currently have the following recurring events on our calendar. People are usually around and doing stuff from 6 pm to 9 pm. You can come a little earlier if you give me enough notice.
- 1st Tuesday of every month: movie night
- Some details of a movie on a given night are listed next to the date below for that movie night, like their MPA rating. Otherwise, the movie for the night is a surprise!
- 2nd Thursday of every month: game night
- Often board games, sometimes video games. Want to play something specific? Bring it on over!
- 3rd Tuesday of every month: TWBCWYDAHTRA
- Short for: the wisdom-y book club where you don't actually have to read anything. I'll do all the reading for you and bring up all the interesting bits for us to discuss. (See more details on this towards the bottom of this page.)
- 4th Friday of every month: share your creative works and interests
- Humans are communal, creative, story-telling creatures by nature. Let's celebrate that by sharing our creative works with one another! Bring anything and everything: stories, short works, poetry, original songs, covers, presentations, factoids, visual media, research, essays, anything!! Heck, even if you found an interesting tale or piece of music from someone else, bring that too. I like having "featured" works to ensure we have something to kick off the night, so contact me so we can make sure you have time to share what you're bringing! Cast aside notions of picture-perfect creations concocted by silly Hollywood focus testing groups and bring whatever you can. (Note: I have a keyboard/piano at my house already if that's what you're playing with.)
Here are those days all written out. Some details, cancellations and special events will be noted here in as far advance as possible :)

Of course, since this is a living room, individuals and groups can start up different conversations and activities around the place. Heck, even if you're dead tired from the day and just want to read in a corner, I'm not gonna say no to that.
~ Contact ~
Do you have recommendations for movies, games or books at our existing events? Do you have ideas for new events? Do you want to open up your living room to regular events, maybe even have them referenced/advertised on here? For anything like this or other suggestions, I welcome you to fill out the below form.
Click here to fill out the contact/ideas/suggestions form.
Or, if you somehow randomly found this website and want to get in contact, you can fill out the form too. Though if we haven't met in person, chances are slim I will reach back out since otherwise it's kind of hard to vet who comes to these events and whatnot, since I'm only one person organizing this stuff at my own house! So I need to be discerning with people, sorry. Though if we somehow meet and you beat me in a game of Street Fighter II, you will be invited to every event and receive free chicken nuggets for life. Maybe.
~ More Details ~
- What kind of movies, books, games, media, etc. do you use/allow?
- My main criteria for selecting books and movies for our time together is to consider if they're edifying, interesting and/or wholesome. I hesitate to say it's always "family friendly" since we may break into the PG-13 or R ratings every now and then, but we're probably not watching any movie like Horror Gore Fest Death Death Death 3 anytime soon y'dig. As for the books, I'm Catholic myself and will lean towards that but it might not always be Christian-specific.
- Who is welcome in the living room?
- Everyone! Jojo's Living Room will be a place of respect for everyone and any kind of harassment, overt vulgarity/meanness or making fun of other groups of people is not allowed. Unless we're making fun of racism or something. Racism sucks (to put it lightly).
- Regarding discussions on wisdom and life and theology and philosophy and whatnot, I do happen to know a lot of Christian-type people so there will be a lot of that, fair warning! Heck, my house has Catholic decor too, so it's everywhere here. But again, as long as everyone is treating one another with love and respect, everyone is welcome to any event in the living room.
- Can I bring children?
- You are free to bring kids, as long as you understand what you might be getting yourself into. Kids who are a few years old or less might do well at our events, but if they're older than a few years then I make no guaranteee that the planned event, people's actions/words or media are age appropriate by your standards for your kid(s). On top of that, since there may not be other kids around at these events, I can't guarantee that some younger kids might not be, perhaps... stimulated enough? My house also isn't baby-proofed at the moment (I'll work on that, I have nephews/nieces to consider myself anyways). Basically, keep all these sorts of things in mind and make a prudential judgment on if you can/should bring kids to a certain event. If you tell me in advance that you're bringing kids, I can try and make certain accomodations that you might need, but again, no guarantees on anything.
- Is there anything prohibited in the living room?
- I ask that you not smoke (any substance), vape, excessively drink or do anything else that will impair your judgment. Try to keep language and topics around PG-13 level. Anyone under the age of 18 will need a parent/guardian if they come to our events. Myself and others at these events and in my neighborhood are not party animals either, so don't show up ready to shout and do keg stands or whatever either. And do unto my house only what you'd do in your own place. Unless you think leaving spills and junk everywhere is fine, in which case, do the opposite of what you'd normally do at your own place. I'm a neat freak sometimes. If people start acting up I'll make y'all sign waivers so keep yourself in check!!!!!
- Is this a business?
- Nope! These are just events at some guy's house, so adjust your expectations accordingly. Everything right now is free and I hope to keep it that way, since it feels like every other way to have fun in the city costs money, y'know?!
- Is there food at these events?
- If you want to help me keep expenses down for these events, feeding yourself is appreciated. (Or even buying food for the rest of us??? Smile, smile, wink, wink maybe???) I'm not gonna let you starve though if the choice comes down to eating somewhere else or making your way to an event here - so I will always have chicken nuggets available for you. Seriously. I mostly drink water and coffee at home though, so you're on your own for drinks.
